My story is interesting – to say the least! My wife and I were members of Pray’s Mill Baptist Church as kids. Our families were involved in the ministries of this church and we initially crossed paths as children without realizing that we would one day become husband and wife. Although I was very involved in the ministries of our local church, I was a lost church member. I had walked down the aisle when I was 6 years old at another church in our community. I prayed a prayer with a preacher and later I was baptized as a member at Pray’s Mill. However, it was not until I was 25 years old that I fully understood that I was lost and needed to receive salvation through Jesus Christ. Although I use the term “lost church member” it is important to realize that I was as dedicated and sincere as possible. I was not out to fool anyone. I was the one being fooled.
At 25 years of age, I surrendered to the ministry. I was given a date to preach my first sermon on a Wednesday night in June. However, it was 12 days after I preached my first sermon that I came to the absolute realization that I was a lost church member. I had been under conviction for quite a while. I had convinced myself that I was only doubting my salvation. On this particular day, I was sitting behind my desk at work listening to a preacher preach on the internet when I came under intense conviction like never before. I realized that I was lost and needed to be saved. Right behind my desk, I submitted to my God and asked Him to save me. I recall the relief that swept over my heart when God saved me – it was the most impressive moment of my life!
Not long after God saved me, I married my wonderful wife Kari. God confirmed in my heart that He had called me to preach the Gospel, and Kari and I moved to Louisville, KY to attend Seminary. While in Seminary, I pastored Van Buren Baptist Church (45 mi. SE of Louisville). During that time, God blessed us with our first child, Karis Buice. Since that time, God moved our family to McMinnville, TN to serve Cornerstone Baptist Church. He also blessed us with our second child, John Mark Buice. Currently, we are expecting our third child which should be born in October of 2010.
In June of 2010, I accepted the call to pastor Pray’s Mill Baptist Church. Since my wife and I grew up here as kids, the privilege of serving the people that once served us is humbling. Although God called us away – He has brought us back to our roots to serve Him and the people of Pray’s Mill Baptist Church. The people of Pray’s Mill are great people and I look forward to what God has in store for us as a family of faith serving the risen Savior Jesus Christ!
On behalf of our entire congregation, I would like to invite you to our services, and if you would like to speak with myself or any of our staff persons, please call our church office and we will be happy to set that up for you as well.
God Bless,
Pastor Josh Buice
