Five verses from the book of Romans present the explanation of man’s spiritual condition and God’s provision for it. These verses are commonly called “The Roman Road.” God’s word shows us that sin is a condition, not simply behavior. Everyone is a sinner. Sin is best defined as rebellion against God. Even in our sinful condition Christ loves us and His Holy Spirit woos us — not because of any performance on our part but because of His unfathomable love for us. The consequence of unrepentant sin is death. But the death of Christ is full payment for our sin. The final verses of “The Roman Road” say a believing heart and a confessing tongue are confirmation that God has changed a life and freed it from the bondage of sin.
