Treasuring God

Covetousness is a discontentment with God.  It’s an old sin that dates back to the Garden of Eden.  It has plagued the minds of every human being at some point and continues to plague us in our present day. Did you know that within 2 years after retirement, 78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt? Within 5 years of retirement, 60% of NBA players are broke (Source: ESPN).  The point is that our culture loves money and believes that it is the source of true happiness.  Greed is an idol that robs God of glory.  Christians must be careful to avoid the trap of greed which sucks the life out of the church.  When you consider that the average giving rate for those who contribute money through a Southern Baptist Church stands at 2.3% of their annual income to God, there is a problem with our value assessment of God, His church, and His mission.

This series is intended to help us rethink our commitment to God through how we use our money.
