The Acts of God

Pastor Josh Buice began a preaching series on August 7th 2011 through the book of Acts.  The series is titled, “The Acts of God” due to the fact that all of the wonderful things that are recorded in the book are not the work of man – but the works of God.  Through this study Pastor Josh will cover, the birth of the church, the worship of the church, miracles, the sovereignty of God, persecution of the church, the grace of God extended to the Gentile population, and much more.  The sermons from this series are located here for your viewing.  Feel free to use them and forward them to your friends who may benefit from this preaching series.

The Unquenchable Flame of the Gospel

November 27th, 2011 |by Josh Buice |Scripture: Acts 5:33-42

[audio:http://www.praysmill.com/Sermons/Acts/5/33-42.mp3]

Pastor Josh continued his preaching series through Acts as he preached from chapter 5:33-42. Persecution for the faith was a real thing in the days of the early church. It remains a real factor today, however, much of it is facing the church outside of the border of America. Would we be able to die for Jesus if we have a hard time living for Him?

[audio:http://www.praysmill.com/Sermons/Acts/7/9-53.mp3]

Pastor Josh continued his preaching series through Acts as he preached from chapter 7:9-53.  Although Stephen was a bold man who actually had a backbone – he also knew about God’s sovereignty and he trusted in that fact.  We see that he had a great deal of knowledge on that subject by the way he responded to the Sanhedrin.

Unexpected Results

February 12th, 2012 |by Josh Buice |Scripture: Acts 8:1-8

[audio:http://www.praysmill.com/Sermons/Acts/8/1-8.mp3]

When the members of the Sanhedrin decided to grind their teeth and murder Stephen, they found themselves in a strange position.  After killing Stephen, this outspoken man of faith – they would have expected the growth and preaching of the church to die down.  If for no other reason than the threat of a similar fate – but that is the exact opposite of what occurred.  Rather than shutting up – the church shouted louder.  Rather than submitting to their threats, the church was committing themselves to the work of Christ!

Beware of False Salvation

February 26th, 2012 |by Josh Buice |Scripture: Acts 8:9-25

[audio:http://www.praysmill.com/Sermons/Acts/8/9-25.mp3]

Simon was a man with a false salvation.  He hungered attention and was fearful of the judgment of God rather than God Himself.  The text ends without any knowledge of his repentance.  What a sad ending to a man who heard the truth and seemed to hunger for something other than Christ!

Philip was a man who was sent out on a mission into the desert.  When he arrived, he found an Ethiopian Eunuch riding across the desert returning home from his worship in Jerusalem.  Philip preached Christ to him from Isaiah 53 – and thus the church was born in the continent of Africa!

When God Saved the Chief of Sinners

March 18th, 2012 |by Josh Buice |Scripture: Acts 9:1-19

[audio:http://www.praysmill.com/Sermons/Acts/9/1-19.mp3]

God turned from Saul the persecutor to Paul the preacher.  He literally became the greatest preacher the world has ever seen – under God Himself in the person of Jesus.  He shook the world with the gospel and it has never been the same!

The Importance of Church Membership

March 25th, 2012 |by Josh Buice |Scripture: Acts 9:20-31

[audio:http://www.praysmill.com/Sermons/Acts/9/20-31.mp3]

After the salvation of Saul of Tarsus, the very first thing we see him do is associate and identify with the visible local body of believers in Damascus.  After three years, he is pushed out of Damascus and goes to Jerusalem.  Upon arrival, the very first thing we see him do is seek identity with the local body of believers.  The point is clear – membership matters!

Our God Heals & Our God Saves!

April 1st, 2012 |by Josh Buice |Scripture: Acts 9:32-43

[audio:http://www.praysmill.com/Sermons/Acts/9/32-43.mp3]

In our present day of false religious miracles and the “Word Faith” movement, we need to see the true purpose behind divine miracles – including the gift of healing.  Why did God gift specific people, such as the Apostles, with the gift of healing?  What is the greater miracle – a paralyzed man being raised to walk or an entire geographic region being healed of their disease of sin?  What’s the more powerful miracle – a dead woman being raised to life or the resurrection of many dead souls in the region of Joppa?
